Bedroom for Nature Lovers

Halfmoon Bay Cabin by Patrick Warren

This angular cabin bedroom is everything. We love how the knotty cedar ceiling and wall paneling create an immediate and seamless connection to natural surroundings. The wood also complements the neutral bedding palette whilst providing the perfect canvas for the strong black and white headboard and artwork.

There’s a peaceful vibe that permeates the entire room. The choice to use Western Red Cedar plays a big part in that calming effect. That’s because incorporating elements of nature indoors promotes wellbeing, reduces stress and improves mental health for occupants.

Another reason these homeowners can rest easy in this beautiful tranquil space is their use of environmentally friendly building material. Real Cedar is a renewable resource harvested from the most sustainably managed forests in the world. So it’s a choice you can feel good about. Plus, it just looks amazing in contemporary design.

“The project would have a completely different character without the use of cedar,” says Patrick Warren, the architect who designed this retreat for him and his partner. “It is actually impossible to imagine the project without it.”

Spacious Design for Austin Artist

Tree House by Matt Fajkus Architecture

Who says a spacious, airy bedroom can’t be warm and cozy at the same time? All it takes is just one design element from nature. Take this space, for instance. With large, sparsely decorated walls and highly functional approach to furnishings, the homeowner of this funky Austin Texas abode clearly prefers a less is more approach to design.

But what keeps this room from being cold is the beautiful knotty grade of Real Cedar on the ceiling. It brings an undeniable warmth to contemporary design that you can’t get with other materials. Architect Matt Fajkus agrees.

“The knots in this case added a desired texture and contrast to the clean and minimal massing of the white stucco on the house,” says the award-winning architect. “In terms of composition, the wood provides a warmth and richness that complements the concrete floors, stucco volumes, and clean-lined geometry of the overall massing of the home.”

Beautiful Biophilic Surfers Paradise

Cardiff with a Side of Ranch by Surfside Projects

This beautiful beachy mid-century home in Cardiff California was designed by Steve Hoilies of Surfside Projects, the same sustainable developer behind the award-winning Avocado Acres House. We love how the rich tonal range of the Real Cedar ceiling/soffit system highlights the funky burnt orange chair and painting. It also creates warm contrast to the cool ocean-themed accent wall,

When it comes to creating a biophilc bedroom that reflects your own personality, incorporating the timeless beauty of cedar paneling, even if it’s just one wall, is an easy solution. It’s a diverse wood that enhances any style of bedroom furnishing, from retro SoCal to traditional New England. Not only do cedar interiors increase occupant connectivity to nature, they inspire great design. Or as holies puts it: “Cedar just oozes soul.”
