The Canadian Wood Council’s Design & Building Awards Winners
canadian wood council award winner

The Canadian Wood Council‘s Design & Building Awards Winners have been announced!

Wood Design & Building magazine has announced the winning projects from the coveted Wood Design & Building Awards program. Launched in 1984, the awards program recognizes and celebrates the outstanding work of visionaries around the world who inspire excellence in wood architecture.

We were proud to sponsor the Western Red Cedar award, which went to the Travis Price Centre – Camp Manitou, in Headingley, Manitoba by 1×1 architecture inc. True North Youth Foundation’s Camp Manitou is a summer camp and year-round recreation facility on 28 acres of land along the Assiniboine River in Headingley, Manitoba. 1×1 architecture was commissioned to design a new ±10,000 sq.ft. multi-use facility to replace the existing lodge.

Throughout the lodge, Western Red Cedar siding provides natural warmth while highlighting entrances and exterior gathering areas. Notable examples include the building’s primary entrance where the Western Red Cedar extends seamlessly between exterior and interior and the vaulted ceiling of the dining hall with its cedar-clad scissor trusses and integrated lighting.
